SecondChanceInfo.com is a free information platform for people rebuilding their lives — whether you have a criminal record, bad credit, a bankruptcy, or are navigating addiction recovery, domestic violence survival, immigration challenges, or any other barrier the mainstream system puts in your way.
The idea is simple: connect housing, jobs, rights, expungement, transportation, banking, food assistance, and recovery resources into one place with clear, honest, and comprehensive guides. No gatekeeping, no lead-gen forms, no middlemen. Just free information.
Why This Exists
When you're starting over, information is scattered across dozens of government sites, outdated forums, and paywalled services. You shouldn't have to pay someone to learn your basic rights or find out which employers give people a fair chance. SecondChanceInfo exists to make that information accessible to everyone, for free.
Who Built This
SecondChanceInfo was created and is maintained by Ran Chen as a personal project to help the people around him. It is not affiliated with any government agency, law firm, or commercial service. The guides are written and reviewed by the site maintainer — not by lawyers or government staff, and there is no professional legal review. Treat everything here as a starting point, not legal advice.
How Our Guides Are Made
- Where the data comes from:official sources first — state statutes, government agency pages (USDA, HUD, state agencies), court rules, and companies' own career and policy pages. Where official sources don't cover something, we use directories, worker-reported accounts, and news reporting, and we label them as such.
- What "confirmed" vs "reported" vs "unknown" means:on company hiring guides, "confirmed" means the company's own policy or careers page says it; "reported" means workers or hiring managers have said it but the company hasn't confirmed it in writing; "unknown" means exactly that — we don't know, and we say so instead of guessing. We never present an unverified claim as a fact.
- How listings are chosen and de-duplicated: resources are pulled into structured registries (companies, cities, programs) and checked automatically at every build — every page must be registered, linked, and listed in the sitemap, and duplicate entries are merged in the registry rather than left as competing pages.
- When we update: every page shows its "Last updated" date — that is the date its content was last checked, not an automatic year bump. We re-verify high-traffic guides and program parameters (benefit amounts, eligibility rules) as they change, and an automated freshness audit tracks which items are getting old so they can be re-checked. We do not claim every page is manually reviewed on a fixed schedule.
- Links and sources: guides list their sources at the bottom of the page with real URLs, so you can check the original yourself.
Advertising
This site is free and has no paywalls or lead-generation forms. It is supported by ads served by Google AdSense in designated ad slots. Ads do notaffect which companies, apartments, or programs we list, the order they appear in, or anything we write about them. No company pays to be included or ranked on this site, and we don't sell or share your data with advertisers (see our Privacy Policy).
